Description
ABOUT THE PRODUCER:
The grapes for the Novità wines are sourced from Italy’s premium wine producing regions, Emilia Romagna and Veneto (Pinot Grigio). Trebbiano and Sangiovese are the archetypical mainstays of many a trattoria and offer delicious easy-drinking alternatives to international varieties, while the Pinot Grigio offers excellent typicity. The Novità collection is made by winemaker Enrico Salvatori of Cevico, one of Italy’s most important wine-making organisations, who own over 6,700 hectares of vines, so consistency of quality is guaranteed.
THE VINTAGE:
The 2022/2023 winter was mild, with below average rainfall in the northern part of Italy. Spring temperatures were above-average resulting in premature budbreak; however May was abnormally rainy which caused a reduced fruit-set and increased disease pressure. Part of the vineyard was flooded for several days during mid- May. A dry and warm June and July helped to recover the delay and contained the risks of mildew. A dry and unusually warm August, September and first half of October saved the vintage.
ABOUT THE VINEYARD:
DOC Delle Venezie is located in the Veneto wine region in the northeast corner of Italy. Many of the vineyards are relatively flat and fertile, so vineyard management is required to manage the yields in order to concentrate the flavours. The vines are planted with a sunny orientation and gentle coastal breezes from the Adriatic Sea help to keep the vines dry and healthy. The Alps help to protect the vineyards from cold, northerly winds. Warm days and cool nights offer the perfect combination to allow slow maturation of the grapes, maintaining beautiful balance between natural acidity and sugar levels. The vines are on average 10 years old and are trained according to the Guyot method. They are grown in volcanic soils, which are known for imparting fresh and mineral qualities to the resulting wines.
THE WINEMAKING PROCESS:
The grapes underwent skin contact maceration for 10 hours prior to being gently pressed. Cool fermentation took place in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks at 18 to 19°C with carefully selected yeasts. The wine was left to rest in tank to retain the purity of fruit until it was prepared for bottling.
OUR TASTING NOTES:
Pretty pink colour, the wine is fruity with aromas of red fruits complemented by notes of rose petal, grapefruit zest and a hint of minerality. Fresh, off dry and a very drinkable style.
GRAPE VARIETY:
Pinot Grigio 86%, Other Varieties 14%.
