PRODUCER NOTE:
The family business has been handed down through the generations of the Tessari family since the early 1900s. The estate was renamed Ca’Rugate in 1986, taking its name from the volcanic hills where the vineyards are located. Now run by the fourth generation, Michele has brought with him a lively, passionate and entrepreneurial spirit. Considerable expansion has taken place in recent years with investment in a new technologically advanced cellar and expansion into the Valpolicella area with the purchase of vineyards in the hilly zone of Montecchia di Crosara. The estate now covers 90 hectares of vineyard. Ca’Rugate has been awarded the prestigious ‘Tre Bicchieri’ award rating from Gambero Rosso multiple times, making it one of the most awarded producers in the competition and has been hailed by the New York Times as one of the “Top Five producers of High-End Soave”.
VINEYARD:
The grapes are grown in the municipality of Monteforte d’Alpone, in the Veneto region. The vineyard is situated on volcanic hillsides where the soil is rich in clay and basalt. The vines are under organic conversion and are cultivated without the use of synthetic treatments.
WINEMAKING:
The grapes were carefully selected to vinify the highest quality fruit. Fermentation took place on the skins, in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures of 16 to 18°C and lasted for 24 to 30 hours. The pigment, phenols and tannins from the skins imparted the wine with a deep colour and this skin-contact method is referred to as an ‘Orange’ wine. The wine was matured for eight months in 400 litre ceramic tanks.
TASTING NOTE:
A rich and savoury orange wine, with a complex and harmonious bouquet of delicate citrus aromas underpinned by subtle notes of Mediterranean herbs. Intense and elegant, with marked minerality and a long, fresh finish.
GRAPE:
Garganega 100%.
