Tierra Antica – Chardonnay – 2023

ABOUT THE PRODUCER:
Time and time again we return to Chile to look for great wines at great prices, working with a network of long-established contacts in vineyards and in wineries to obtain the best fruit and the best conditions in which to turn it into great-value wine! The Tierra Antica range includes a collection of attractively packaged wines which represent wonderful value for money.

ABOUT THE VINEYARD:
The grapes were carefully sourced from selected growers in the Valle Central, which encompasses the subregions of the Maipo Valley, Rapel Valley, Curico Valley and the Maule Valley. The Central Valley is a 1,000 kilometre plateau which sits between the Andes Mountains and the cool Pacific Ocean. The climate, with its warm sunny days, cooler evenings and intense sunlight encourages a long growing season, which is ideally suited to producing healthy grapes with concentrated fruit flavours. The soils are fertile and the vines are vertically positioned and spaced at 1.5 x 2.2 m. Drip irrigation takes place to ensure the vines receive the optimum amount of water for vine growth and health. The crops are green harvested to eliminate short shoots and promote a healthy canopy.

THE WINEMAKING PROCESS:
Most of the grapes were hand-picked the first week of March and only a small proportion of the fruit was machine-harvested to ensure freshness. Carefully selected bunches were fermented at 12° to 16° in stainless steel to retain freshness, aromatics and varietal characteristics. The wine was stabilised for 15 to 20 days at a temperature of 4°C and then earth-filtered prior to bottling.

A creamy yet elegant wine with luscious tropical fruit and white peach flavours, beautifully balanced by a fresh finish.
