PRODUCER NOTE:
The Domaine de l’Elite is part of Domaine Creusserome, a family winery located in the south of Burgundy near Clesse. Established in 2007 they produce traditionally crafted wines from 33 hectares of vineyard in the communes of Vireand Peronne.
VINTAGE
2017 was a great vintage in the Maconnais. The summer weather was mainly sunny and warm, interspersed with cooler, rainy days, which allowed the vegetative cycle to develop and the grapes to reach excellent maturity levels. The resulting wines are aromatic and full of varietal character with the cooler nights producing slightly higher acidity levels.
VINEYARD:
The Macon-Villages appellation covers white wines produced in selected communes of the Maconnais wine area in southern Burgundy. The landscape of the Maconnais is one of rolling limestone hills, bordered in the east by the Saone River. The 45 year-old vines in the Domaine de l’Elite vineyard are grown in clay-limestone soils, with the clay component providing good water retention properties, nourishing the vines throughout the warm summers. The southerly location means the climate is warmer than more northerly parts of Burgundy.
WINEMAKING:
The grapes were harvested at optimum maturity and then fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks and enamelled vats in order to preserve the integrity of the aromatics and flavour profiles of the grapes along with the nuances of the Macon terroir from which they hail.
TASTING NOTES:
An easy-drinking Macon, showing an aromatic and floral nose with citrus overtones. Creamy and textured on the full, but beautifully balanced palate, with refreshing notes of pear, peach and apricot on the palate through to a clean and rounded finish.
