Description
ABOUT THE PRODUCER:
Château Lestrille is located at the northern point of the Entre-deux-Mers appellation in the small town of St. Germain du Puch between Libourne and Bordeaux. Passionate and dedicated winemaker Estelle Roumage makes modern, elegant wines from sustainably cultivated grapes. Estelle believes the essence of winemaking lies in the vineyard itself, placing considerable emphasis on respecting the balance of the soil. The vines have been cultivated organically since 2019 and the estate has been certified organic from the 2023 vintage. Each plot on the 45-hectare property is vinified separately with tailor-made precision and minimal intervention to respect and optimise the characteristics of the vintage and terroir, creating charming wines with the utmost appeal.
THE VINTAGE:
Despite initially challenging weather, the 2018 Bordeaux vintage was excellent. The winter was unusually wet and remained so throughout the spring. Hail also struck some vineyards during this period. However, conditions eased, allowing for a successful flowering followed by a particularly hot, dry summer with surprisingly cool nights, from June through to September. September brought welcome rains, reviving the vines. Harvest took place under ideal conditions, producing small, thick-skinned and highly concentrated berries, resulting in rich wines, slightly raised alcohol levels, with balancing acidity and a fresh, fruity appeal.
ABOUT THE VINEYARD:
The vineyards are managed using sustainable viticultural practices and are certified HVE3, which officially recognises the environmental performance of winegrowers, including biodiversity conservation, plant protection strategies, managed fertiliser use and water resource management. The utmost respect is given to the balance between the vines, their natural environment and the soil and biodiversity is encouraged. These cool clay-based soils provide good water retention and impart a powerful quality to the resulting wine.
THE WINEMAKING PROCESS:
A wine made with the utmost care from the vine to the bottle, this is the result of the Château’s top wine-making expertise. Each parcel was vinified separately in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to retain the purity of fruit, followed by ageing in carefully selected barriques, enhancing the wine with elegance and complexity. The wine underwent further ageing in bottle, prior to release.
