Description
PRODUCER:
Chile produces remarkably good wines at amazingly good prices from its privileged position between the Andes and the Pacific, where winemakers are blessed with some of the most desirable conditions on earth: exceptional soils, ideal temperatures, and intense sunlight. There is very little use of pesticide and the philosophy of the winemakers we work with is: minimal interference. We work closely with a handful of the finest winemakers in Chile. We source Viña Edmara from two main areas: the rich Central Valley area and the cooler Coastal Area. All exhibit the maximum-freshness fruit for which Chile is famous. Viña Edmara wines reflect Chile and the typicity of each of the varietals and of their terroir.
VINEYARD:
Casablanca is known for its cool-climate wines and is a region in which the Pinot noir variety thrives. Located between Santiago and Valparaiso, the proximity to the Pacific Ocean and the influence of the Humboldt Current create a unique microclimate, which is ideal for viticulture. This cool, maritime climate is influenced by ocean breezes and morning fog, and the Humboldt Current, a cold-water current flowing up the Chilean coast, contributes to this cooling effect. This cooling effect means the grapes retain their natural acidity, resulting in fresh and balanced wines. The grapes for this wine are grown in a mixture of silty soils with more clay towards the coastal range from the Casablanca region.
THE WINEMAKING PROCESS:
The berries were destemmed and partially crushed. The must was cooled immediately after crushing to maintain aromas and flavours, and to reduce the level of sulphur dioxide. A cool pre-fermentation maceration lasted for five days, extracting primary flavours and colour. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks, with a gentle extraction to achieve a soft and fruity character in the final wine. After short post-fermentation maceration, the wine had brief oak contact to increase complexity.
TASTING NOTE:
This is a stylish and light-bodied Pinot Noir, with notes of black cherry, strawberry, rose petals and violets, layered with hints of vanilla and coconut. Smooth and velvety, through to an elegant finish.
GRAPES:
Pinot Noir 100%.
