Description
ABOUT THE PRODUCER:
Cantina Tramin was founded in 1898 and has 310 member winegrowers who follow its strict directives for vine cultivation. The vineyards are an integral part of the enchanting and picturesque landscape of the Alto-Adige region of Northern Italy and cover 260 hectares situated on the sunny slopes of the area at altitudes ranging from 250 to 850 metres above sea level. In 2011, Cantina Tramin gained the “Double Stella” award – an extraordinary achievement, which is given to a winery for being awarded the prestigious “3 Bicchieri” 20 times by Gambero Rosso.
ABOUT THE VINEYARD:
The grapes are grown in 14 hectares of vineyards across three areas: near Montan, Egna and Tramin. Alto Adige is a dynamic wine growing region in Northern Italy that combines a brisk Alpine climate, mountain viticulture and complex geology, with the brilliance of Mediterranean sunshine. The climate is characterised by the extreme interplay of sunny days influenced by the Mediterranean climate, and cool nights marked by the cold downslope winds from the surrounding mountains. The vines yield 80hl/ha and are planted in calcareous clay, limestone and gravel soils, at an altitude of 250 to 400 metres.
THE WINEMAKING PROCESS:
The grapes were gently pressed immediately upon arrival at the winery. Fermentation took place in small temperature controlled stainless steel tank at 19°C. The wine went through partial malolactic conversion, before being matured in stainless steel vats to retain freshness and purity of fruit.
OUR TASTING NOTE:
This Pinot Grigio brings the alpine freshness factor to the glass! Rich, full and dry with expressive notes of ripe pear and peach complemented by floral hints. Delicate on the palate with a zesty citrus character layered with notes of pear and peach through to a long, persistent finish.
GRAPE VARIETY:
Pinot Grigio 100%.
