Description
PRODUCER:
In 1962, nineteen vine growers from San Marzano combined their efforts to establish “Cantine San Marzano”. Over the years, the cooperative has grown significantly and now comprises over 1200 vine growers. They are now one of the most professional, forward-thinking companies in Southern Italy, with a reputation for producing great wines. Their production philosophy is simple but uncompromising; “passion” and “competence” are the bywords at the heart of their everyday activity.
VINEYARD:
The San Marzano Primitivo vineyard is located in Salento, Puglia and is situated at approximately 100 metres above sea level. The area is characterised by high average temperatures and a medium-low rainfall. The vines are planted at a density of 4,500 per hectare. The soft soil layer is clayey and quite thin, with a good presence of rocks, providing good drainage for the vines. Harvesting takes place during the first week of September.
WINEMAKING:
Skin contact maceration took place for several hours, followed by a partial drawing off the must. Fermentation took place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, preserving the aromatics and fruitiness of the Primitivo variety. Ageing then continued in stainless steel to retain freshness.
TASTING NOTE:
A softly coloured rosé with intense aromas of wild cherries and raspberries, combined with an attractive hint of aromatic Mediterranean maquis. Elegantly styled and slightly off-dry, with a refreshing finish.
GRAPES:
Primitivo 100%.
