Description
PRODUCER:
In 1962, nineteen vine growers from San Marzano combined their efforts to establish “Cantine San Marzano”. Over the years, the cooperative has grown significantly and now comprises over 1200 vine growers. They are now one of the most professional, forward-thinking companies in Southern Italy, with a reputation for producing great wines. Their production philosophy is simple but uncompromising; “passion” and “competence” are the bywords at the heart of their everyday activity.
VINEYARD:
The vineyard sits at approximately 100 metres above sea level and benefits from great diurnal temperature variations, which are ideal for promoting an extended ripening period for the vines and concentrating the flavours in the berries. The vines are planted at a density of 4,000 vines per hectare and are grown in soft soils, which are thin with a fine texture and good drainage. The vineyards are managed sustainably, with technology being used to monitor weather conditions in order to minimise the work required in the vineyard. A bio-fertiliser made from seaweed from the nearby Ionian Sea is employed as an alternative to chemical fertilisers. Biodiversity within the vineyard is encouraged by the planting of indigenous grape varieties, alongside Mediterranean trees and plants, which are resistant to drought, thereby reducing water waste. The harvest takes place during the second and third weeks of August.
WINEMAKING:
The grapes were crushed, destemmed and gently pressed. Cold static sedimentation was followed by alcoholic fermentation at controlled temperatures of approximately 15 to 16°C, which retained both the freshness and fruity aromatics. The wine was aged in stainless steel to preserve these fruit-forward characteristics.
TASTING NOTE:
Floral notes combine with aromas of tropical fruits and a hint of citrus zest. This lively, fresh white blend has a touch of minerality and is bursting with ripe flavours from the South of Italy.
GRAPES:
Malvasia 50%, Sauvignon Blanc 50%.
