Description
PRODUCER:
London Clay is a modern and contemporary brand, located in the Crouch Valley in Essex, and established in 2019. The name pays homage to the unique fossil-rich soil that is found across Essex and which gives these wines their distinct minerality and freshness. This pair of wines is produced using the Charmat or tank method (the same method as used for Prosecco), resulting in a refreshing and accessible style due to the shorter period of ageing on the lees.
VINEYARD:
The vineyards are located in the Crouch Valley in Essex and the name pays homage to the unique fossil rich clay soil that is found across Essex and which gives these wines their distinct minerality and freshness. This is one of the driest and warmest parts of the UK and the proximity of the River Crouch helps many vineyards avoid trouble from spring frosts.
WINEMAKING:
Hand harvesting to ensure that the ripest grapes are selected. London Clay Brut is made using the Charmat method (also known as the tank or Prosecco method) which is uncommon in English wine, where most are made using the Traditional Method. Wines made by this tank method are fermented in tank for up to three months keeping the varietal and freshness of the wine.
TASTING NOTE:
A refreshing sparkling wine made from estate grown Chardonnay and Pinot Noir and filled with zesty citrus and green fruit flavours.
GRAPES:
Chardonnay 50%, Pinot Meunier 25%, Pinot Noir 25%.
