ABOUT THE PRODUCER:
The Medeville family runs this exceptional Domaine in the Cadillac region of Bordeaux. Jean Medeville is an experienced winemaker with an international pedigree. He cultivates the vineyard sustainably and since 2017 the estate has been certified HVE Level 3. His aim is to make modern, fruit-driven wines that represent excellent value for money.
THE VINTAGE:
2013 in Bordeaux was a challenging vintage, resulting in one of the smallest in decades. Cool, wet weather in spring was followed by a warm, sunny summer period. A sunny summer and fine autumn weather allowed the juices to concentrate. The conditions enabled a good noble rot, with very little undesired rot and the 2013 wines show great aromatic complexity.
ABOUT THE VINEYARD:
The estate is cultivated sustainably, including biodiversity conservation, plant protection strategies, managed fertiliser use and water resource management. The vines are grown in alluvial soils, which are made up of a loose mixture of sediments, often comprised of sand, clay, silt and gravel and are nutrient-rich. The grapes are handpicked at different stages of maturity from the 40-year-old vines, where noble rot, or botrytis, was allowed to develop.
THE WINEMAKING PROCESS:
The three varieties were vinified separately in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks to retain the purity of fruit. Ageing also took place in tank to retain freshness and the aromatic profile, lasting for 12 months, before blending took place. The wine was then aged in bottle for eight to 12 months, prior to release.
OUR TASTING NOTES:
Concentrated apricot, honeycomb and floral aromas lead to an unctuous palate, full of peaches and honey balanced by a refreshing palate. This is a wonderful all-round dessert wine that’s great value for money and almost identical in style to it’s neighbours in Sauternes and Barsac.
GRAPE VARIETY:
Semillon 90%, Muscadelle 5%, Sauvignon Blanc 5%.
