Description
ABOUT THE PRODUCER:
Cantina Bonacchi has been making fine Tuscan wines for three generations. The wines are produced from 40 hectares in the Chianti Montalbano area, as well as from 10 hectares divided between Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino. They also own 20 hectares in the Chianti Classico area. Modern technology and family expertise enable Bonacchi to offer excellent wines from their four estates in Tuscany.
THE VINTAGE:
Excellent weather in April and May, followed by a particularly hot July, helped to ripen the grapes, which took place gradually due to rainfall during August. August also saw a drop in temperatures, which encouraged the plants to divert all necessary nutrients to the clusters, producing excellent aromatic and polyphenolic ripeness.
ABOUT THE VINEYARD:
The vines are grown in the Chianti Classico zone, in marl and limestone soils. The simple Guyot-trained vines are manually harvested at optimal ripeness.
THE WINEMAKING PROCESS:
The bunches of grapes were carefully harvested and then hung up to dry for approximately two months in a well-ventilated room. The dried grapes were rigorously selected and pressed; the resulting must was transferred into small oak barrels, known as caratelli. The barrels were not filled to the top to allow controlled oxidation to occur. Following oxidation, the barrels were then filled to make them airtight, and the Vin Santo was left to age for approximately five years.
OUR TASTING NOTE:
Heady aromas of candied fruit and toffee lead to a sweet palate, with balancing freshness. This traditional Tuscan sweet wine shows lovely complexity from the ageing, which delivers caramel notes with sweet, citrus fruits through to a deliciously long finish.
GRAPE VARIETY:
Trebbiano 70%, Malvasia 20%, Other Varieties 10%.
