ABOUT THE PRODUCER:
Brown Brothers is one of Australia’s leading family-owned wine companies. Based in Milawa, Victoria for over 130 years, it is the Brown family’s sense of adventure and innovation has led them to where they are now: creating exciting new wines, pushing boundaries, and developing vineyards in some of the best regions in Australia. In 1989, Brown Brothers celebrated 100 years of winemaking and established the ‘Kindergarten Winery’ a mini-sized winery where experimental and innovative wines can be made on a smaller scale. In 2015, fourth generation Katherine Brown joined the winemaking team and became the first female winemaker in the family, working alongside awardwinning winemaker Cate Looney. For a company named Brown Brothers, today they are led by a team of eight women and two men. Their pioneering range of wines includes less known varieties such as Cienna and Tarrango and an alcohol-free duo named ‘Zero’. They are members of Sustainable Winegrowing Australia, and all their wines are precisely crafted, with care, attention and consistency.
THE VINTAGE:
2024 was a fantastic vintage with few challenges in the vineyard and fantastic quality fruit. The reds are full of colour and flavour while the whites have terrific natural acidity.
ABOUT THE VINEYARD:
This wine is made from Muscat of Alexandria grapes grown in vineyards in Victoria. The Muscat of Alexandria variety is believed to have originated in North Africa and spread around the Mediterranean from the port of Alexandria, Egypt, possibly during the Roman Empire. The variety has found a natural home in the vineyards of Victoria, where the grapes are grown sustainably in vineyards that are certified by Sustainable Wines of Australia.
THE WINEMAKING PROCESS:
This wine is made from Muscat of Alexandria grapes. The grapes were harvested from early February to late March 2024 at baumés ranging from 11.6 to 14.4. Fruit was crushed to drainers, pressed, fermented in stainless steel tanks using Chardonnay yeast and stored at 0° before being bottled. The wine was bottled soon after fermentation with an alcohol of 5.5% and with a light spritz from retained CO2 to maintain freshness.
OUR TASTING NOTES:
A wine of universal appeal, the 2024 Moscato is beautifully clean with a light straw colour and some youthful green tinges. The nose is lifted with aromas of musk, citrus and freshly crushed grapes. In the mouth the wine is alive with a vibrant and mouthfilling sherbet flavour. The retained natural carbon dioxide from fermentation gives a mild frizzante effect resulting in a lively and fresh wine. Serve well chilled and enjoy while young and vibrant.
GRAPE VARIETY:
Moscato 100%.
