New Hall Wine Estate has deep roots in English winemaking. The first vineyards in Purleigh, Essex, were planted in the Middle Ages. The vines thrived in the area’s gentle climate and even supplied wine to the Crown. In 1969, Bill and Shiela Greenwood founded New Hall Wine Estate and began planting vines once more, creating one of the oldest commercial vineyards in the UK.

Purleigh’s warm and sunny microclimate makes it ideal for growing high-quality grapes. Today, the estate has 49 hectares under vine, including one of the largest plantings of Bacchus in England. Its modern winery produces award-winning still and sparkling wines that capture the character of English vineyards.

Now led by the third generation of the Greenwood family, the team continues the estate’s proud tradition of crafting wines with care, from vine to glass.
