ABOUT THE PRODUCER:
Michele Chiarlo is one of Piedmont’s most prestigious wine producers, creating outstanding wines from some of the most exceptional sites in Piedmont, including Barolo’s world-famous Cannubi and Cerequio vineyards. Founded in 1956 by the great Michele Chiarlo and now run by his sons Alberto and Stefano, the Chiarlo philosophy is to capture the terroir from their sustainably cultivated vineyards, which hold the Equalitas certification. With a judicious use of oak, they hand-craft a selection of wines suitable for ageing and some which can be enjoyed earlier. Their stunning collection of Barolo and Barbera wines consistently receive 90+ points from Wine Advocate, James Suckling and Wine Enthusiast.
ABOUT THE VINEYARD:
The grapes are grown in a east and southeasterly facing vineyard, which optimises the vine’s exposure to the sun and encourages the grapes to reach optimum maturity. The vines are planted in white soils which are mainly composed of limestone and a small amount of clay, which help to impart elegance and freshness to the resulting wine. The clay element offers good water retention properties, which help to sustain the vines during the warm, dry summers.
THE WINEMAKING PROCESS:
The grapes were harvested at optimal maturity, and the clusters were sorted and gently pressed. Fermentation took place in temperature-controlled vats and rested in the vat for three months to retain the freshness and aromatic qualities of the Cortese variety, before being bottled.
OUR TASTING NOTE:
Bright and modern, this is a floral and fruity Gavi showcasing appealing aromas of exotic fruits and white peach. It is harmonious and refreshing on the palate with a pleasing roundness and an elegant finish.
