Description
PRODUCER:
Two generations have been working together on this estate for almost twenty years. Heidrun and Manfred Wolf had taken over their parents’ estate and now have passed on the baton to their son, Claus Wolf and his wife, Barbel, who have both studied oenology through different routes. As a family, they pride themselves on the quality and integrity of their estate wines.
VINEYARD:
The Rheinhessen is one of Germany’s largest wine regions. The vineyards are favourably influenced by the Rhine River, which runs along the Rheinhessen region’s north and eastern borders. The Rhine, along with the Nahe River to the west and the Haardt Mountains to its south, form a natural border. The Rheinhessen has a variety of soil types and climatic influences, but the best vineyards are located close to the Rhine. This creates a distinctive mesoclimate where the valley, with its steep banks, is able to trap heat, while the river moderates the temperature and reflects sunlight. The Taunus hills, Odenwald, and Hunsrück Mountains shelter the vineyards from harsh weather, giving Rheinhessen a mild climate with a relatively long growing season. Annual precipitation is relatively low, roughly 500mm, making it one of the country’s driest wine-producing areas. The emphasis in the vineyard management is placed on keeping the delicate balance between land, climate, flora and fauna.
WINEMAKING:
The grapes were harvested at optimum maturity and selected to vinify the healthy and ripe fruit. Cool fermentation with selected yeasts took place at controlled temperatures in stainless steel tanks to capture the freshness of the Riesling grapes. The wine was matured reductively in stainless steel tanks until bottling.
TASTING NOTE:
Fresh and lively, with floral Riesling notes and delicate peach aromas. Juicy and fruit-forward, with ripe apricot flavours beautifully balanced by a refreshing palate through to a clean, off-dry finish.
GRAPES:
Riesling 100%.
