ABOUT THE PRODUCER:
Bruce Jack Wines is made up of a small, dynamic team which aims to celebrate authenticity and provenance, not just in the wine they craft, but in everything they do. Head winemakers Bruce Jack and Marlize Beyers have worked together since 2002, and both have extensive experience in many winemaking regions around the world. Human culture started at the tip of Africa, despite it being ‘off the charts’, so it is fitting that something as culturally rooted as wine should thrive there, inspiring the ‘Off the Charts’ wine range, crafted from grape varieties and regions that are South Africa’s viticultural cornerstones. The labels draw inspiration from the untamed majesty of the wilderness and the symbolic Basotho blanket. The Tumbleweed series of wines capture the essence of the raw, unyielding beauty of this wild region, with vibrant flavours, they showcase the typicity of the grape varietals and the character of the land. In 2023, Bruce Jack featured for the fourth consecutive year in the World’s Most Admired Wine Brands, awarded by Drinks International.
THE VINTAGE:
The 2024 vintage was marked by a relatively cool, dry growing season. Winter rainfall was good, providing ample water reserves. The cool conditions allowed for slow ripening, resulting in grapes with concentrated flavours and vibrant acidity. A warm, dry harvest period ensured optimal ripeness.
ABOUT THE VINEYARD:
The vineyards are located in various locations within the Cape Coast and Breedekloof, where they typically benefit from a Mediterranean type climate. The soils are mostly red, deep soils combined with some sandy ones. The vines are mainly trellised with some grown as bush vines. The vineyards are sustainably cultivated and the grapes are hand harvested.
THE WINEMAKING PROCESS:
The Chenin Blanc grapes were destemmed and carefully sorted. Cool fermentation on the skins took place in stainless steel fermenters and lasted for eight days. Pressing took place via basket press, then alcoholic fermentation and malolactic conversion were completed in 228 to 300-litre neutral oak barrels. The wine then spent eight months maturing on the fine lees in neutral oak barrels. The “Tumbleweed” wine series is known for its wild and vibrant flavours, showcasing the characteristics of the grape varietals and region.
