PRODUCER NOTE:
Remember the thrill of your first pastis in that wonderful bistro in the rambling rue just off le Place du Marché? The first time you spoke French? Perhaps your first love was with you. And remember the bliss of that first bottle of vin rouge? Barefoot in that Starry Starry Night? The trance-like pleasure of … being in France. These beautifully blended wines will bring back all of those memories! Les Boules wines have been sourced from vineyard sites in the South West of France, and blended and bottled in Macon. We are looking at a very French type of wine, with fresh fruit and good acidity. Attractively packaged and priced.
VINTAGE:
Broadly speaking, the 2023 growing season started well in the South of France, with a normal winter, dry in some places but sufficient rainfall in others and no damaging frosts. Rainfall in May and June required vigilance in the vineyards amid disease pressure in the humid climate. Much of the region experienced extreme drought during the summer months and a four-day heatwave starting on 20th August brought temperatures of 43°C and resulted in an early harvest.
VINEYARD:
The fruit is sourced from carefully selected vineyards mostly located in the South of France. The area has a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild winters, with the majority of rainfall occurring during spring and autumn. Dry, continental winds from the north west bring cooling influences to the vineyards, which help to reduce disease pressure. This wind is interspersed with warm winds from the south, which bring moisture to the vines. Each vineyard site has its own terroir characteristics which add subtle complexity to the resulting wine.
WINEMAKING:
Each grape variety was fermented separately with selected yeasts in temperature controlled stainless steel vats which retained the freshness and aromatic characters of each varietal.
TASTING NOTE:
This Southern French blend is very French, with its floral and citrus notes, it is unpretentious and easy-drinking.
