ABOUT THE PRODUCER:
Kayra produces premium wines from the Anatolia region -considered to be the birthplace of wine- and is at the cutting edge of winemaking. The wines are made from unique local varieties as well as international ones. These ancient indigenous varieties are being vinified using modern techniques and are producing award-winning results. The vines are planted in the best sites; and the vineyards and wineries have been significantly invested in. The ElaziÄŸ winery, located in Eastern Anatolia, was established in 1942 and is dedicated entirely to the production of red wines. The Åžarköy Winery in Thrace was built in 1996 and embraces a cellar for 1,200 barrels, reserved for the ageing of special cuvées. Under the guidance of consultant winemaker Daniel O’Donnell, it is Kayra’s aim to reveal the true potential of Turkey and to bring their rich history and generous spirit to lovers of fine wine.
ABOUT THE VINEYARD:
BuzbaÄŸ means Ice Vineyard and takes its name from the ice caves of Harput, a historic city in Eastern Anatolia. The Emir grapes were grown in the NevÅŸehir vineyard and the Narince grapes were grown in the Tokat vineyard. Anatolia is the large peninsula on the westernmost section of the Asian continent. Its eastern and southeastern areas are thought to be among the first regions in the world to produce wine. The climate is continental, with sunny, hot days which encourage the grapes to reach phenolic ripeness and concentrates the flavours in the berries, while the cool nights result in natural balancing acidity.
THE WINEMAKING PROCESS:
The wine was fermented in stainless steel tanks in order to preserve the freshness and aromatics of these indigenous varieties.
OUR TASTING NOTES:
The two indigenous Anatolian grapes Emir and Narince are exquisitely blended to create BuzbaÄŸ White. The delicate aromas of Narince with its lemon, freshly squeezed grapefruit, hints of apricot and lychee are enhanced by the rich texture of the Emir variety, through to a deliciously zesty finish.
GRAPE VARIETY:
Narince 55%, Emir 45%.
