Description
ABOUT THE PRODUCER:
These wines are produced by Italy’s fastest-growing wine company, the superb Gruppo Cevico, based in Italy’s heartland in Emilia Romagna. Il Sacrato translates as ‘Churchyard wines’, which reflects the fact that many ancient European wineries were at one time owned by the Church. This trio of wines has proved to be a huge hit with UK customers since their introduction in 2012, when we were looking for some stylishlooking wines which would look good on any restaurant table.
ABOUT THE VINEYARD:
The grapes are grown in the rich and fertile region Rubicone IGT which is located in the Emilia-Romagna region in Central Italy. Rubicone IGT covers the provinces of ForliCesena, Ravenna and Rimini, as well as the south-eastern half of Bologna. The name Rubicone is taken from the famous Rubicon River.
THE WINEMAKING PROCESS:
Each grape variety was vinified separately. The grapes were crushed and cold soaked for 12 hours, before being fermented in temperature controlled vats for five days with daily pumpovers to extract colour and flavour from the skins. The wine was pressed and transferred to concrete tank where it underwent malolactic conversion. The cuvées were carefully blended before bottling.
OUR TASTING NOTES:
A wonderful blend of Sangiovese and Merlot, in which the structure and weight of the Sangiovese complements the plummy earthiness of the Merlot. A succulent, mediumbodied wine with fresh cherry fruits, subtle complexity and a peppery bite on the finish.
GRAPE VARIETY:
Sangiovese 70%, Merlot 30%.
