Description
ABOUT THE PRODUCER:
Il Casone is sourced from one of our long-standing partner-producers, based in the heart of the Veneto region, who using modern vinification techniques produces stylish wines full of typicity. They have been awarded the Equalitas Certification which officially recognises social, environmental and economic pillars of sustainability, through biodiversity, carbon and water footprint and ecological cultivation practices. We are very proud of our small, but stylish Il Casone range. We seek no shortcuts in fashioning wines which are fresh, interesting and bursting with character.
THE VINTAGE:
A mild winter was followed by abundant rainfall during the spring and early summer, which replenished soil water and nourished the vines during the heat spikes of the latter part of the summer. Initially, the cooler temperatures of the early summer slowed down the physiological cycle and the summer rainfall encouraged canopy growth. The second half of the summer brought sunshine and hot temperatures spikes which accelerated ripening. At harvest, the fruit showed good balance of concentrated fruit flavours with ample freshness.
ABOUT THE VINEYARD:
Veneto is a wine region in the northeastern corner of Italy. Many of the vineyards are relatively flat and fertile, so vineyard management is required to manage the yields in order to concentrate the flavours. The vines are planted with a sunny orientation and gentle coastal breezes from the Adriatic Sea help to keep the vines dry and healthy. The Alps help to protect the vineyards from cold, northerly winds. Warm days and cool nights offer the perfect combination to allow slow maturation of the grapes, maintaining beautiful balance between natural acidity and sugar levels. The vines are grown in chalky soils which are valued in viticulture for their excellent drainage. This, combined with the subsoil’s ability to store water, provides the vine with a continuity of the right amount of water supply.
THE WINEMAKING PROCESS:
The grapes were destemmed and gently pressed. Fermentation took place in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks with selected yeasts. The wine was kept in tank until bottling, to preserve the integrity of the primary fruit aromas and its fresh and zesty style.
