Description
ABOUT THE PRODUCER:
Domaine de la Rouletière is located in the heart of some of the most sought-after slopes in Vouvray. Founded in 1914, it is owned by the Gilet family, winegrowers for five generations. Owner and winemaker Jean-Marc Gilet cultivates the 27-hectares of Ecocert certified organic vineyard, with the utmost respect for the environment and the terroir. At the heart of the vineyard, the domain possesses a magnificent two storey cellar that has been carved out by the Gilet family over many generations: 800 square metres set in freestone. The wines are elegantly styled, beautifully balanced and bear all the hallmarks of superb Vouvray.
ABOUT THE PRODUCER:
The Vouvray AOC is situated on the right bank of the Loire Valley. The fruit for this wine comes from 70-year old vines, grown in a three-hectare single vineyard ‘le Pont de Frasnes’. The vineyard is certified organic by Ecocert; the grapes are grown without the use of synthetic or chemical preparations. The vineyard is planted with a south-facing orientation to maximise sunlight exposure during the growing season. It covers Turonian limestone hillsides, interspersed with confluent valleys and covered with ‘perruche’, a flinty clay soil. The vines yield 40 hectolitres per hectare and the grapes are handharvested once they have reached optimal maturity.
THE WINEMAKING PROCESS:
The grapes were selectively picked by hand and each parcel within the single vineyard was vinified separately to retain the character of the terroir. Fermentation took place at cool temperatures using natural yeasts. Maturation took place in French oak barrels for 15 months imparting subtle complexity.
OUR TASTING NOTES:
Bearing all the hallmarks of classic Vouvray, this shows smoky apple and stone fruit with a taut mineral core, complex, long and savoury.
GRAPE VARIETY:
Chenin Blanc 100%.
