PRODUCER NOTE:
Château de Campuget was established in 1942 and is a top quality estate near Nîmes, which is steeped in history. The Château itself was built in 1753 and at the same time the first vines were planted, prompting the ‘1753’ range of wines which mark this historic date. Now in the hands of winemaker Franck-Lin Dalle, who is the third generation of his family to run the estate, the fusion of tradition and progression unites in the cellars where Franck-Lin deftly crafts wines with integrity, finesse and a wonderful expression of terroir from a wide range of traditional Rhône varieties. In 2019, Château de Campuget was certified as Haute Valeur Environmentale, which officially recognises the environmental performance of winegrowers, including biodiversity conservation, plant protection strategies, managed fertiliser use and water resource management.

VINTAGE:
2020 was an exceptional vintage for Campuget. Spring brought timely, gentle rain, just before and after flowering. The summer saw classic hot, Mediterranean weather, without the heatwaves of recent years, and a gentle storm during August refreshed the vines, enabling them to reach perfect maturity. The canopies were plentiful, providing important shade and the vineyards were in excellent health. Picking started on the earliest ever date -17th August. The grapes delivered outstanding fruit concentration and excellent balancing acidity.

VINEYARD:
The Vineyard is situated 15 kilometres south of Nîmes, near the village of Manduel, in the heart of the ‘Appellation d’Origine Protégée’ the Costières de Nîmes. The average age of the vines is approximately 25 years. The main characteristic of the vineyard is the soil, which is formed of ‘gress’, an accumulation of rounded pebbles that have been deposited by the overflowing Rhône River thousands of years ago. These pebbles allow the vines to grow in the best possible conditions and due to this natural soil filter; the vine’s roots can easily draw the necessary water for their growth. The vines also benefit from the Mediterranean sunshine, which bring the grapes to perfect maturity and allows them to be picked at maximum phenolic maturity in early September.

WINEMAKING:
The two varieties were harvested at optimal maturity and the grapes from each variety were pressed and vinified separately. Cool fermentation took place at controlled temperatures with selected yeasts to preserve the purity of fruit flavours. The wines were then artfully blended to make this cuvée.

TASTING NOTE:
A delicate pale pink, with a fresh wild strawberries and hints of grapefruit on the nose. Refreshing with a persistent finish, completed by subtle hints of nectarine. Simply delicious.

GRAPE:
Grenache 70%, Syrah 30%.
