ABOUT THE PRODUCER:
Brown Brothers is one of Australia’s leading family-owned wine companies. Based in Milawa, Victoria for over 130 years, it is the Brown family’s sense of adventure and innovation has led them to where they are now: creating exciting new wines, pushing boundaries, and developing vineyards in some of the best regions in Australia. In 1989, Brown Brothers celebrated 100 years of winemaking and established the ‘Kindergarten Winery’ a mini-sized winery where experimental and innovative wines can be made on a smaller scale. In 2015, fourth generation Katherine Brown joined the winemaking team and became the first female winemaker in the family, working alongside awardwinning winemaker Cate Looney. For a company named Brown Brothers, today they are led by a team of eight women and two men. Their pioneering range of wines includes less known varieties such as Cienna and Tarrango and an alcohol-free duo named ‘Zero’. They are members of Sustainable Winegrowing Australia, and all their wines are precisely crafted, with care, attention and consistency.
THE VIINTAGE:
The 2023 growing season began with a relatively dry and mild spring, allowing for good budburst and flowering. However, a cool and wet summer followed: December and January saw significant rainfall leading to disease pressure concerns. Thankfully, diligent canopy management and a return to warmer, drier weather in February and March helped mitigate these issues and the wines are characterised by their freshness and vibrancy.
ABOUT THE VINEYARD:
This wine is made from Muscat of Alexandria grapes grown in vineyards in Victoria. The Muscat of Alexandria variety is believed to have originated in North Africa and spread around the Mediterranean from the port of Alexandria, Egypt, possibly during the Roman Empire. The variety has found a natural home in the vineyards of Victoria, where the grapes are grown sustainably in vineyards that are certified by Sustainable Wines of Australia.
THE WINEMAKING PROCESS:
The grapes were harvested at a Baumé level ranging from 10 to 13.2. The grapes cooled and fermented with selected yeasts in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks, to retain the aromatic characteristics of the Muscat of Alexandria grapes. Following fermentation, the alcohol was removed using spinning cone distillation technology to ensure full flavour. The Moscato Zero was bottled with an ABV of less than 0.5%. The naturally retained carbon dioxide from fermentation imparts a mild frizzante effect, resulting in a lively and refreshing wine to be enjoyed young.
OUR TASTING NOTES:
Lifted aromas of musk, citrus and freshly crushed grapes lead to a lively palate with a vibrant and mouth-filling sherbet flavour in a light, fruity style.
GRAPE VARIETY:
Moscato 100%.
