PRODUCER NOTE:
Bertrand de Monceny is produced by winemaker Marinette Garnier, originally from Burgundy who holds degrees in biochemistry and oenology. The carefully selected grapes come from the Loire and Languedoc regions and are harmoniously blended to create this classic sparkling wine made by the ‘Méthode Traditionnelle’. This method produces fine, gentle bubbles which enhance this elegant and fresh sparkling wine. Made from 100% Chardonnay it delivers expressive fruit layered with mineral complexity and makes a great apéritif or the perfect party fizz.

VINEYARD:
This sparkling wine is produced from carefully selected Chardonnay grapes originating from vineyards in the Loire Valley and the Languedoc regions. The climate in the Loire is cooler, continental and produces fruit with naturally occurring crisp, fresh acidity. The grapes from the Languedoc benefit from the warm, Mediterranean climate, resulting in a richer style of fruit, which results in harmonious complexity when blended. Conventional viticulture is adopted at Bertrand de Monceny. The soils, vines and grapes are nurtured throughout the vine growing and harvesting processes, to preserve the finesse, quality and flavours that characterise this Chardonnay Brut.

WINEMAKING:
This sparkling wine is made by the classic ‘méthode traditionnelle’ which is the same method used in Champagne. Only the finest and ripest grapes were selected, delicately pressed and fermented in stainless steel tanks to retain the purity of fruit. The ‘liqueur de tirage’ of sugar and yeast was added before the wine was bottled, where it underwent the secondary fermentation creating the delicate and fine bubbles characterised by méthode traditionnelle sparkling wines. The wines underwent ‘remuage’, the process by which the bottles are twisted to compact and later facilitate the removal of any sediment. The wine was kept on its fine lees for eight to 10 months, prior to being disgorged. The bottles were topped up with the ‘liqueur de dosage’ resulting in a residual sugar of 11 grams per litre.

TASTING NOTE:
This delicious sparkling wine offers an abundance of fine, delicate bubbles and displays great finesse, elegance and complexity with flavours of citrus fruits and apple through to a fresh, crisp finish.
